The Society for Conservation Biology celebrated Earth Day with another Earth Optimism event run by the SCB Wellington Chapter in collaboration with Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne. The event was held in a function room at the Zealandia Ecosanctuary and was well attended by SCB chapter members and members of the public.

Ten speakers from diverse environmental organisations across the Wellington region shared stories of optimism and positive change happening through conservation action and advocacy. It was an uplifting afternoon and an awesome opportunity to connect the conservation community. We thank this year’s speakers for making time to talk to us and look forward to Earth Day 2025.

In 2023, the SCBO Wellington Chapter celebrated Earth Day by bringing together 5 fantastic speakers to share optimistic stories about their work in conservation. Talks were hosted by Zealandia-Te Māra a Tāne, an urban ecosanctuary in Wellington.

Surrounded by native bush and birdsong, we were inspired by stories and perspectives from Kia mauriora te Kaiwharawhara, Predator-Free Wellington, Sustainable Coastlines, and Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Biological Sciences. We thank the speakers who gave their time and everyone who came along and made the day a success. We look forward to Earth Day 2024.
