Chapters provide a way for our members to connect and become involved in local conservation initiatives.

Our Chapters

Chapters are a critical pillar of the Society for Conservation Biology, hosting local events and building and supporting local conservation networks. In Oceania, our Chapters undertake local restoration activities, and host quiz nights, workshops, conservation careers panels, bush walks, and movie nights.

Some Chapters focus on a single city, county, or campus; others cover broader geographic areas from state to national levels. Some draw their membership primarily from students and faculty at academic institutions; some are comprised of practitioners and conservation scientists from many fields; and some are a mix of both students and professionals.

If you don’t have a Chapter near you, you could start one! Lots of resources are available to help. Get in touch if you want to know more!

  • Hawaii

Anyone who lives in Hawaii can become a member of HISCB. Our diverse membership includes students, university faculty, conservation professionals, and community members interested in the conservation of the Hawaiian Islands. Being that our chapter is spread out over multiple islands, we always make it a point to include a live webinar during our official meetings and continuously look for opportunities to engage members from all islands.

  • Wellington

The SCB Wellington Chapter is a local chapter based at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. As a university club, our membership is comprised of university students and staff and our three projects reflect the interests of our community.

  • South East QLD

The SCB Southeast Queensland chapter is dedicated to promoting the conservation of biodiversity and associated ecological processes that improve and maintain the ecosystem health of Southeast Queensland, Australia. To achieve this, our focus is on building skills of our members to support conservation science and become more aware of conservation.

  • Sydney

The Sydney chapter is open to members in the greater Sydney Region and beyond! We are an international group with members from Australia, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Kenya and Liechtenstein. Our current board and membership is largely based at UNSW, USYD, Macquarie University, Wollongong and Taronga Conservation Society, but we aim to broaden our membership to include conservation professionals, conservation students and anyone with an interest in advancing the field of biological conservation.

  • Papua New Guinea

SCB Papua New Guinea is dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity of PNG.

  • Greater Melbourne

The Greater Melbourne Chapter is currently inactive. If you are interested in helping to get it back up and running, please get in touch!
