Our vision for the future is a statement and a guiding light that drives our actions and decisions. It is a commitment to advance conservation knowledge and practice in Oceania in a safe and inclusive way. It highlights our values of accountability, integrity, and effectiveness.

The SCBO Vision for 2024-2027 is to:

  • Provide opportunities for knowledge exchange and mutual, respectful learning that advances conservation knowledge through SCBO events, conferences, networking initiatives, and promotion of the Pacific Conservation Biology journal;

  • Engage with the conservation community in Oceania through the SCBO Chapters;

  • Support the conservation community in Oceania and globally to use conservation knowledge and evidence, including that gained through Indigenous & Local Knowledge systems, application of scientific methods and experience achieved through active practice, to:

    • improve conservation outcomes through conservation practice, improved education and communication of knowledge and evidence;

    • inform policy aimed at improved conservation outcomes.

Our vision supports SCBO’s Charitable Purpose

To protect, conserve and enhance the natural environment, provide information or education, or carry on research, about the natural environment or a significant aspect of the natural environment, and to advance science and further the practice of conserving Earth’s biological diversity in Oceania (Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands).
