Half-yearly Update for SCB Oceania Members

December 2023

We cannot believe it has been more than a year since we saw many of you at the SCBO-ESA conference in Wollongong, Australia!

Before the year runs out we wanted to send a brief update to our members about SCBO’s activities since the AGM in July and some things to look forward to in the new year.

By now we hope you have heard the exciting news that the next ICCB will be held in Oceania! At ICCB 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda, SCB President Vanessa Adams and SCBO President-elect Courtney Melton announced that ICCB 2025 will be hosted jointly by SCBO and SCB Global and held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre in June, 2025.

If you haven’t already, please share this news with your networks and colleagues. You can register your interest for the conference and receive future updates by clicking here

The ICCB 2025 Steering Committee is working hard to develop a congress that will offer a safe and inclusive space that is accessible for people of all cultures, backgrounds and identities to share their insights, knowledge, and research with the shared aim of addressing conservation challenges and advancing conservation science and practice. If you’d like to get involved with conference planning or volunteering please get in touch with an SCBO board member at any time. Because of the significant workload for the board involved with developing ICCB 2025, SCBO have decided not to hold a full regional conference in 2024 according to our usual two-yearly schedule. Instead, we intend to focus our efforts in 2024 on engagement in the Pacific. Specifically, we aim to bring you a Pacific-themed webinar series in 2024 and host a special event at the 2024 Hawai’i Conservation Conference. Stay tuned for more details on these initiatives early in the new year!

In the meantime, we wish everyone a safe and positive close to the year. We look forward to continuing to work together to advance the science and practice of conserving biological diversity in Oceania and around the world – something needed now more than ever.

With best wishes from the SCBO board
