Celebrate Earth Day 2022 with us. The theme this year is Invest in our Planet. What better way to celebrate than to come to the zoo, be inspired by amazing views, surprising creatures, and solutions from passionate people saving the earth. This year we have 2 opportunities to hear from our speakers so if you miss out on one there’s always a second chance. Come to Taronga Zoo April 22nd and hear solutions from four speakers truly investing in our planet. There will be props, prizes, and more. All ages welcome and there will be something for everyone. Join us for one talk, get excited, and stay for the rest!

Session 1: 10:00 – 10:30 AM

Next to the Corrobboree Frogs

On your way into the zoo hop on over to the Corrobboree Frog, be inspired by this little guy and the amazing success that the zoo’s breeding program has had. We’ll be talking inspiring Earth Solutions just next to the Corrobboree frog 10:00 – 10:30am so start your day right with a dose of optimism before heading onwards to your favourite exhibits or shows.

Session 2: 12:30 – 1:00 PM

At the Elephant Pagoda

Missed us at the Corrobboree Frogs? Don’t worry – we’ll be conveniently located at the Elephant Pagoda. Enjoy your favourite seal and bird shows and then come over, enjoy the view, grab a snack, and be prepared to be inspired! Each of our speakers will be talking for 3-5 minutes and then engaging the audience with any questions you might have.

Kimberly Bolton

Kimberly Bolton is the CEO and founder of Carapac who aims to change the world of packaging. Carapac is creating sustainable, durable and plantable single use packaging out of crustacean shell waste to replace harmful plastic packaging and reduce food waste with our innovative technology.

Communicating with the wild

Vanessa Morris

Vanessa Morris is from Macquarie University, researching the behaviour and social interactions of endangered species to help conserve them. Her work aims to support the release of animals into the wild by understanding how they communicate.

AirSeed precision drone solutions for landscape restoration

Charlotte Mills

Charlotte Mills is a community ecologist and the head of ecology at AirSeed Tech, where she is responsible for product development and project delivery. AirSeed is a fast-growing ecological restoration company. AirSeed has developed specialised tree-planting drones and proprietary Seed Pod biotechnology to rapidly replant large areas of land and restore lost biodiversity.

Michelle Shaw is Taronga’s Zoo & Wildlife Nutritionist. This talk will introduce Wildlife Assist; a project aimed to develop and communicate evidence-based recommendations for wildlife provisioning food water and shelter following natural disasters.
