Ocean Plastics Café a great success

With the support of SCB Oceania, the Sydney chapter organised an Ocean Plastics Café on the 12th of July, right in time for the Plastic Free July challenge. The Café started with a short talk by marine debris researcher Jess Merrett, who updated all the participants on the newest plastic science, as well as important facts and numbers. The Sydney chapter had collected marine debris at beach clean-ups in the days leading up to the event, and this debris was used to create amazing sculptures at the Café. The best sculptures were voted for by all participants and the artists of the winning sculptures received marine-themed books and reusable coffee cups as prizes. This debris sculpturing event was a great way to remind people of where all their plastic waste ends up and what devastating effects it can have on marine life.
