Early bird registration for SCBO 2016 closing soon!

Early Bird registration for the Society for Conservation Biology Oceania conference in Brisbane this July closes on April 15th – that’s next Friday!

If you haven’t submitted an abstract to present at the conference, it’s not too late – we are still accepting abstracts for late breaking posters. Late breaking posters provide an opportunity to present at SCBO 2016 for those who were unable to commit to a presentation before the abstract deadline. We also encourage the submission of abstracts featuring “late-breaking” scientific results. Abstracts should have clear application to conservation science, management, policy or education.

You can also get free registration if you offer to volunteer during the conference. More information here.

If you are attending, and are interested in our lunchtime workshops (How and why to start an SCB Chapter, Making effective connections between academia and conservation NGOs, What editors and reviewers are (not) expecting to find in your submission) or a chance to have lunch with our fantastic plenary speakers, please register your interest here. Places are limited, and first come, first served.

The SCBO 2016 scientific committee were thrilled to announce last Friday that we have awarded a total of AUD $70,000 in travel scholarships to allow students, scientists and practitioners to attend our conference. We were able to provide 27 full scholarships (flights, accommodation, and registration fees) and 63 partial scholarships. Our travel award recipients come from 19 different countries, so we’re looking forward to a diverse conference! We are incredibly grateful to the Thomas Foundation, Queensland University of Technology, and Tourism and Events Queensland for their funding support.

Finally, can you help us to name our SCBO 2016 platypus mascot? Suggestions welcome on our Twitter and Facebook!
