Society for Conservation Biology Oceania awards 2016

SCBO are pleased to announce the call for our annual student awards, and for our regional distinguished service award. The closing date for nominations for all awards is April 30th.

Student Awards

As usual, we have two student awards up for grabs – one for the best Oceania student presentation at SCBO Brisbane 2016, and one for the best student publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Prizes include free registration to ICCB 2017, or SCB membership! Last year these prizes were taken out by Tim Doherty and  Jessica Walsh, respectively.

To be considered for the student paper award, e-mail a pdf of your paper and proof of your student status (e.g. a photo / scan of your student ID) to awards@scboceania.org by April 30th. To be eligible, papers must be first-authored by a student member of SCB Oceania, with a publication date any time during 2015 or in the first quarter (Jan-April) 2016. Papers will be judged on their scientific merit, clarity, innovativeness, and relevance to conservation and management. Winner(s) will be announced at the SCBO Award session at SCBO Brisbane 2016 on July 8th in Brisbane.

Student members presenting (oral, speed or poster) at SCBO Brisbane 2016 who ticked the “please consider me for a student award” box when submitting their abstract (n = 151!) will be considered for the student presentation award. Presentations will be judged by board members attending the conference, and the winner(s) will be announced after the conference has finished.

Distinguished Service Award

Regional Distinguished Service Awards acknowledge distinguished service in any field associated with conservation biology, for individuals or institutions from academia, government, and affiliations outside academia and government within Oceania. Our last distinguished service award was presented to John Woinarski at ICCB 2015 in Montpellier.

Nominations for the 2016 Oceania Distinguished Service Award should be submitted via e-mail to awards@scboceania.org by April 30th. The Winning Nomination will be decided by May 15, 2016, with the award to be presented at the SCB Oceania Congress in Brisbane, Australia, July 5-8 2016. Awardees travel to and attendance at the conference will be covered. You can download a nomination form here. For more information, please e-mail awards@scboceania.org.
